5 Winter Sports Activities That Will Get Your Heartbeat Up

Winter, the season with the most joyful holidays, the season when we attend a lot of gatherings with family and friends, the season when we might get a little carried away with eating, is also the season when we are rather limited in the sports activities that we might have practiced outside. So, is winter a time of staying inert and putting a temporary stop on our physical health?

Definitely not! The cold winter weather is nothing but an excuse to skip out on some much needed fitness. While it is true that you can’t go outside for a run or play basketball in the outdoor court, there are definitely winter sports that you can do that will keep you active, while also providing some good seasonal fun.

Do you love winter sports? We do, they’re great fun, especially because the winter sports activities that we’ve listed here are purely seasonal. You can’t go skiing in summer, at least not in most places.

1. Skiing

Skiing is a winter classic. I bet it is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about winter sports. The awesome part about skiing is that it can be as exciting as you want it to be. You can take it easy on a gentle slope but you can also go to the extreme opposite and practice wild skiing. Of course, make sure you don’t step out too much of your comfort zone when skiing, don’t go somewhere your skills aren’t ready for.

2. Snowboarding

Snowboarding is another classic winter sport quite similar to skiing. But on the other hand, it is also quite different from skiing and it is widely considered to be more extreme than skiing. The most important part about both snowboarding and skiing is having the proper gear and skills, so you will need to start off easy unless you’ve got plenty of experience already.

3. Ice Skating (Winter sports for a couple?)

Ice skating might look like something out of a romantic movie, and it can be a rather romantic activity if practiced with your partner, but don’t think for a moment that ice skating won’t get your heartbeat up. It can actually get you really tired, which is one of the reasons why it is one of the best winter sports activities. On the plus side, you can do it with your girlfriend, fiancée or wife.

4. Ice Climbing

Unlike the other activities that we’ve mentioned in this article, ice climbing is not one that you should do completely on your own. First of all, you’ll need the proper equipment to go ice climbing and then you’ll need someone with you as this is an inherently dangerous winter activity. But it is incredibly rewarding when you conquer a challenging climb. It’s an adventure you won’t forget easily.

5. Sledging (Winter sports from your childhood)

If you lived anywhere with snow while you were a kid, you will remember sledging. It’s a seriously fun winter sports activity that is also great when you grow up. It’s not just for kids. You can go sledging with company as well. Take your partner, your kids or your friends. You’ll have fun nonetheless.
